Young Brian May
Picture of Brian May. His caption note :Me with my first guitar – which my Mum and dad bought me for my 7th birthday. This was taken in July 1964 – by my dad i’m sure – a little spoof on the rage of the day – the early days of the Beatles. I’m wearing my suit jacket with the lapels turned up to emulate a Beatle Jacket, I’m doing the “OOOH!” from Twist and Shout, and we’re in my Mum and Dad’s dining room. you can just see the TV which my Dad made in the background – it had a tiny screen with a double mask around it – all made by hand by my Dad. It stood about 4 feet tall, the speaker being in the bottom half.
The guitar already has the extra Dot I put in the fingerboard – my Red Special was modeled on this guitar, feel-wise. The neck was intended to be the same profile as this – but I think I actually forgot the thickness of the fingerboard itself so the Red Special ended up with its very thick neck!
