Arthur Chisnall

Promoter of the EelPieLand Club from 1956, when he persuaded Eel Pie Hotel owner Michael Snapper to let him start a Jazz club in the ballroom of the dilapidated premises. The club became famous as a key venue in the birth of British rhythm and blues, which in turn gave birth to what is now known as rock music the world over

Chisnall kept a benign eye upon the young club-goers, acting as a social worker to offer help with those he considered vulnerable.
